Battle of the Primers – Maybelline Baby Skin vs. W7 Prime Magic

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog! Today I have a post on two drugstore primers that I’ve been using, and I wanted to pit them against each other and see which one really comes out on top. The Maybelline Baby Skin Primer and W7 Prime Magic Primer are very similar in their claims, but which one will come out on top?

The Maybelline Baby Skin primer is £7.99 (not bad!) and claims to be a lightweight primer for smooth, poreless skin. The primer is a clear gel-like formula with a silicone texture, which I like because it actually feels like it’s going to block your pores away (lol). I first tried it because it was said to be a dupe for the Benefit Porefessional primer (and y’know, we all like a bargain).

This is actually my second time buying it, because I did like the feel and the texture of it on my skin. It really evens out your face to a smooth canvas for makeup application and to me it did help reduce the appearance of pores but I wouldn’t say it has much effect on fine lines. It has no smell (or a very very slight sweet smell) so no problems there. However, it does advertise itself as a lightweight formula, and I would tend to disagree. It definitely feels quite thick on the skin and feels just a *little* greasy. Still really nice and if you were ever thinking of trying it I would go for it!

Overall: 4/5

The W7 Prime Magic primer is £3.99 (!) on Amazon, and after trying a few other W7 products I was really impressed with, I decided to try it out. I think I have found The One. The Primer. It’s great. Where Baby Skin had it’s faults Prime Magic (I also love the name!) steps in. It’s not just as thick as the Baby Skin primer and feels more ‘wet’ than gel-like, so I was worried I wasn’t going to like it. But I was wrong. It’s just the right consistency, much nicer than Baby Skin and it’s definitely (for me) a keeper. It does look more translucent but it had absolutely no affect to how it looks. I put it under my foundation and it really did make my pores minimized, and I did notice that a few fine lines around my mouth were gone. It really is magic. I wore this all day at work and my makeup didn’t need touched up at all which is amazing when you have an oily T-Zone (-.-). Again, it has no fragrance so there was no problem. I will definitely re-purchase this, and perhaps say goodbye to my old pal Baby Skin!

Overall: 5/5 WINNER!

I hope you enjoyed this (very short, sorry!) post and if you did please give it a like! 🙂 Let me know what your favourite primer is!
